Network Traverse City Plans a Wedding

Wedding Countdown Ticker

My daughter is 25 and I am currently embroiled in helping her and her fiance plan their special day. I am of course making connections to wedding vendors in our area as well as on line tools that might inspire our local vendors to get out there and market themselves.
If you know of a wedding vendor who needs help with their local Facebook page let them know I can help them create a page. If you have any ideas for my DIY plans, we are trying to do this without breaking the kids bank which is already pretty heavily weighted with student loans and a broken Michigan economy.
If you are a wedding vendor in our area and would like to make connections Dana makes it easy D & J Party by Design created a Facebook page for Vendors Northern Michigan Wedding Vendors I love how Networking Traverse City, Michigan works.

Found today April 12th : Bridal fit into my dress gym Eco friendly :)

  1. Oleson's for a wedding cake (I believe the east-side Oleson's is the only one that does wedding cakes or was when we had our wedding). Ours was beautiful, delicious and super cheap! My biggest money saver though was to make our own bouquets and boutonnieres. After the rehearsal dinner, each bridesmaid made their own bouquet (white roses) and I made my own bouquet (a mix of different pink roses). My mom and a friend made the boutonnieres. We got the flowers from Sam's Club - it was something like $150. They were gorgeous and easy to make! We arranged the leftover flowers in vases to decorate the ceremony venue and head table at the reception. For invites we made our own and they looked just as nice as the ones that cost a fortune. Also, we saved a ton by doing the rehearsal dinner at my parents' house - it was a lot of fun (we had the main course catered and then made some salads to go along with it, so it wasn't too much work). We had a small wedding with a lot of out-of-town guests, so it would have been just about as much for a rehearsal dinner at a restaurant as it was for the reception.

  2. Thanks for the reply, actually I'm the cake decorator and we are making the invites ourselves, and my friend and past employer Maxine Sayer from Big Rapids a Master Gardener and florist is helping me put together the flowers. We are still working out the particulars and of course I might have to make some changes but plan on posting pictures as we go along and give shout outs to local businesses along the way. Thanks Again Michelle Hazard
